Elizabeth Bell Simmons, 88, died May 17, 1948 in Gilmer County, GA. Born
September 18, 1859 in Madison County, TN she moved with her family to
Jonesboro, AR where she met and married the late Mr. L. M. Simmons who
brought her to the Cartecay community where they lived until his death in
1923. Since then she has made her home in Ellijay. She was a member of
Cartecay Methodist Church. Her parents were the late Jasper and Nancy
Rosemond Bell of Arkansas. Survivors include her children, S. S. Simmons,
Paul S. Simmons, Miss Florence Simmons, Mrs. Howard Perry, Mrs. E. W.
Thayer; thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral
services were conducted by a former pastor, the Rev L. F. Van Landingham
assisted by the Rev C. B. Cochran, the local Methodist minister, at
Cartecay Methodist Church. Pallbearers included Ernest and Raymond Hudson,
Robert and Joel Stembridge, C. C. Poindexter, Sr., Frank Pettit and Les
Osborn. Interment was in Cartecay Methodist Church Cemetery. Logan and Son
