6th Infantry Regiment was organized at Macon, Georgia, in April, 1861, and soon moved ot Virginia. Its companies were recruited in the counties of  (A) Hancock, (B)Dade, (C) Houston, (D) Butts, (E)Crawford, (F) Mitchell, (G) Taylor, (H) Baker, (I) Twiggs, aand (K) Oglethorpe. Assigned to General Rains' Brigade, the regiment totalled 703 men in April, 1862, and was active at Williamsburg and Seven Pines. Later it transferred to General Colquitt's Brigade and remained under his command for the balance of the war. The 6th served with the Army of Northern Virginia from the Seven Days' Battles to Chancellorsville, then was ordered to North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida where it fought at Olustee. During the spring of 1864 it returned to Virginia, participated in the conflicts at Drewry's Bluff and Cold Harbor, and endured the battles and hardships of the trenches at Petersburg. Sent to North Carolina the unit saw action at Bentonville and surrendered with the Army of Tennessee. It lost 38 killed, 167 wounded, and 3 missing during the Seven Days' Battles and reported 43 casualties at Chancellorsville and 61 at Olustee. The field officers were Colonels Alfred H. Colquitt and John T. Lofton; Lieutenant Colonels Charles D. Anderson, William M. Arnold, Wilde C. Cleveland, Sampton W. Harris, and James M.Newton; and Majors James M. Culpeper and Phil Tracy.    "Henry Bunn, a gallant Georgia soldier in one of the first regiments enlisted for the period of the war, the Sixth Georgia, is deserving of remembrance among the heroes of the war in Virginia.  He entered the service in Company I of the Sixth Georgia, under the command of Gen. Alfred H. Colquitt, then a colonel, and served in Virginia on the peninsula during the early months of the war.  He was in battle on the Yorktown lines, and in the retreat toward Richmond, and on June 27, 1862, participated in the fighting of D. H. Hill's division at Gaines' Mill or Cold Harbor, where his regiment suffered heavy loss.  He was shot in the hand, but after he had gone to the rear and had this wound dressed he returned to the front and again joined in the attack upon the Federal works, when a ball pierced his heart, instantly putting an end to his heroic career.  He was given a soldier's burial on the field of battle.
    His family was devoted to the Confederate cause and yet cherishes the sacred memories of the war for Southern ndependence.  A brother, William C. Bunn, residing at Cedartown, is now prominent as an attorney, and well known throughout the State.  He was graduated at Mercer university in 1881, and in 1882 began the practice of law at Cedartown.  During the two decades which have elapsed he has rapidly risen in his profession, and is particularly prominent as a corporation lawyer, representing the Eastern & Western railroad company, the Alabama & Georgia Iron company and Georgia & Alabama mining company and several of the leading mills and factories in northern Georgia.  In 1898-99 he represented his senatorial district in the upper house of the Georgia legislature.  Mr. Bunn was married in 1886 to Anna, daughter of Capt. W. C. Knight, a Confederate officer, and clerk of the court of Polk county."  Source:  Confederate Military History Vol. VII p. 528
